FAQ – What is the vWD1 disease?

Von Willebrand disease (vWD1) is a genetic disorder that prevents normal blood clotting and can cause extended bleeding. Typical symptoms of the disease encompass excessive or abnormal bleeding following injury, surgery, or the presence of blood in various bodily secretions (urine, feces, etc.).

When both parent dogs are vWD1 Clear, their puppies will not get the disease.

We test our breeding pairs for vWD1 and DM (degenerative myelopathy) to ensure that our pups will not get these diseases.
